Eswatini National Industrial Development Corporation

Introduction

The Eswatini National Industrial Development Corporation (ENIDC), established under the National Industrial Development Corporation of Swaziland Act of 1971 to promote industrial development, adopted its current name in 2021 following the country’s renaming. After becoming dormant in 1986, the Corporation was revived in 2012 as part of the Government’s efforts to stimulate economic growth and employment.

However, challenges such as a high ratio of non‑performing loans, loss of control over key assets, and heavy reliance on annual government subventions have constrained ENIDC’s ability to effectively fulfill its mandate.

In this context, the implementation of a comprehensive turnaround strategy is critical to restore financial sustainability, strengthen institutional capacity, and reposition ENIDC as a catalyst for industrial development and economic transformation in Eswatini.
